Learn to Fight: Attack at Denny's

I really love that scene from Enter the Dragon. The lesson clear and simple. It is best to use one's intellect to avoid fights whenever possible.
Now watch this one...
I respect the victim for his courage and willingness to fight back and defend himself however I think he used poor judgement by not trying to extricate himself from a situation in which he was at an extreme tactical disadvantage. Immediately after the argument started he simply should have acquiesced and left with his girlfriend. There really was no point staying because the ambiance was ruined anyway. Would that have been a cowardly act on his part? No not at all! Getting himself and his girlfriend out of harms way would have been the intelligent thing to do. The two thugs were the cowardly ones with their size, strength and 2-1 advantage.
Situational awareness ("street smarts") and knowledge of human psychology (knowing how to "read" people) are crucial to successful self-defense because in many cases they will allow one to completely avoid dangerous confrontations just as Bruce Lee demonstrated. Those mental mental abilities are just as important if not more so than having actual combat skills.
Of all the DVDs featured on this site the one that focuses the most on situational & psychological awareness is Paul Vunak's Street Smarts.
It is a shame the victim did not know the "art of fighting without fighting" and I hope you will learn from his mistake.
